Home-Based Art Classes for People of All Ages
The value of art-making cannot be overemphasized, it provides an outlet for creativity that enhances learning and self-esteem.
Since art may be a new experience for many, we will get started by discussing how to use materials and demonstrating various techniques. Students can then choose which materials and techniques they want to explore.
Students will be encouraged to be as independent as possible, and will receive the following supports if needed.
• Those with visual disabilities will receive verbal information regarding available materials and a description of the ways they might be used
• Those with hearing impairments can learn about activities by observing the teacher, or in a group setting, others using the materials
• Those with physical disabilities may need to use art materials in different ways, such as lying on the floor over a bolster pillow to draw
• Some may need help with manipulating the materials or even to physically carry out their ideas
• Some may need help with manipulating the materials or even to physically carry out their ideas
• Some may need help with manipulating the materials or even to physically carry out their ideas
• Those with attention deficit disorders may receive their own materials and spaces to work, and will be permitted to make as many art products as they like
This class is open to everyone. It can accommodate the needs of individuals with an intellectual or developmental disability and is open and available to anyone who wishes to take advantage of a slow pace and abundant reinforcement. The class was designed in accordance with the principles of Universal Design for Learning, and we have aimed to create a learning environment that is both accessible by and challenging to all.
When we had to make choices between access and challenge, we specifically placed our emphasis on access to knowledge and skills. Consequently, some people will find that the pace and the content is not sufficiently challenging– but each person can make that decision for themselves. All are welcome.
The cost of a class ranges between $225-$500 depending upon location and the number of participants.
